    Cora Anderson
With love and respect, I note and honor the passage of Cora Anderson, widow of Victor Anderson, co-founder of the Feri Tradition, elder and Grandmaster to many people whom I respect greatly. I celebrate the fact that she made it to Beltane, at the same time as I regret that she did not make it to her May 3 wedding anniversary as she'd wanted -- but somehow I suspect they will find a way to celebrate their anniversary together, in health and love. ;)

Her community gathered around her, her magickal and physical kin were all in touch. It was a good way to go.

Blessings to her as she travels, and comfort to those she's left behind.

    Pondering
I spent Friday morning touring local hospices. Even at the no-pay ones, the places where I would expect to find our (mostly black and brown and gold, mostly poor, almost entirely urban) patient population -- I found almost no black or brown or gold faces. The faces were almost entirely pink or paler.

Given that I'm relatively certain (being's how these are Medicaid slots, racial discrimination is entirely illegal) that there's no active racial discrimination, the question arises -- how come there are so few black, brown or golden faces utilizing hospice services? Something social? Something cultural? (It's also true that -- at least in Chicago, at least in the 70s and 80s, most Af-Am families were not interested in going through fostering or legal adoption through the county. At least until their preachers started suggesting it from the pulpit, then it became ok. In-family taking-in of the babies was something different, of course.)

Anybody have any ideas why this might be so?
